As warmer weather approaches and evenings are drawing out, relaxing in the garden is back on the agenda.
Question is, how ready is your outdoor space?
Thanks to the harsh elements of winter – and the endless blossom and new growth of spring – the answer is probably, not very!
Unless you’ve been careful to stay on top of things, there’s every chance your outside area is looking a tad wild. But before you reach for the brush to start scrubbing patio flags, or attempt to tackle the tedious job of re-staining wooden decking or fence panels, pause. Perhaps now is the time to think about switching to composite products.
More time relaxing and less time spent on chores? Sounds like a no-brainer, doesn’t it? But just in case you need a little more convincing, here the team at Modern Garden highlight how composite decking and composite fencing can be a great addition to any garden.
Why switch to composite?
Low maintenance guaranteed. If you’d used composite products last year, you’d be laughing all the way to your deckchair right now.
With no need to sand or stain, composite decking is highly durable and offers a popular alternative to materials such as wood.
Modern, attractive, stain and slip-resistant as standard – opt for composite decking or composite fence panels and you get all the look of traditional timber, but without the headache.
How to use composite products around the garden
· A home for your hot tub
All the rage over lockdown, hot tubs look set to remain a firm garden favourite in ‘22. If you fancy the idea of your own private spa, then you’ll need a safe surface to position your tub, and composite decking is perfect.
Strong, anti-slip (even with wet feet), and with no risk of nasty splinters, composite boards make a great base for hot tubs. To find out more, check out our blog on hot tubs and decking.
· Build a bar
If the plan is to maximise chill time in the garden, you might as well make it sociable!
Building a bar area outside is a great idea. Use a combination of exterior cladding and composite decking and let your imagination run free – sangria anyone?
· Create shelter
Fed up with plans being rained off? Weatherproof your outdoor space and create a covered area. This could be a great spot to build your bar, position outdoor seating, or sit that hot tub you’re building a base for.
And remember, composite decking is slip-resistant even in wet conditions. So even if you have to dash from the back door to your sheltered spot, you won’t be taking your life into your hands.
· BBQ hot spot
Do you struggle to know where to put the barbecue so it’s safely out the way? Then why not use decking to create a designated BBQ zone. Using contrasting colours and levels of decking is an effective way to highlight different areas and organise space. Place on a raised platform, safely section off the ‘grill zone’, or position the BBQ under shelter to avoid soggy sausages.
· Fencing
Possibly one of the worse garden maintenance tasks has to be painting fences. Yet switch to the contemporary look of composite fence panels and you eradicate the need! Your outside space will remain smart and secure all year round. With no annual panic to repaint before the plants start to grow.
· Seating
Has all this talk of deckchairs reminded you that you don’t actually have any outdoor seating? Then why not build a bench area with composite decking? You’ll have a useable seating area that doesn’t have to be put away at the end of summer and can be enjoyed all year round. You can even include storage in the base as an extra bonus.
Get summer ready
Make the switch today and you’ll not only have a great looking garden to enjoy for the rest of the summer, but a space you can enjoy all year round.
Even if you’re a strictly fair-weather person and have no intention of being outdoors in the depths of winter, you can stay warm inside, snug in the knowledge your decking will be ready and waiting for you when the sunshine reappears.
