How to deck-orate your decking this Christmas

After a pretty gloomy year, are you keen to brighten your home and spread a little Christmas joy?

Well you’re not on your own! This year people have not only ‘gone early’ with their Christmas decorations in a bid to lift spirts, it seems they’re upping the ante with them too – creating bigger, brighter and more festive displays.

        Want to join in?

If you’re looking for new ways to make your home Christmassy then why stop at the front door? Spread the joy into your garden and decorate your outdoor space too! Here composite decking experts, Modern Garden, share how – with a few easy tricks – you can transform your garden into a winter wonderland.

        • Fairy lights – simple but oh so effective. Wrap fairy lights around the railing or balustrades of your decking, dangle from fence panels, drape around plant pots or drip from tree branches to create a twinkling masterpiece. Opt for classic bright white or a rainbow of colours for an effective, eye catching display.
        • Garlands – an attractive garland is a great way to spruce up your decking area for Christmas. Buy ready-made or – if you’re feeling creative – have a go at making your own using leaves and greenery from around the garden, then thread around the decking railings or even drape across the patio table.
        • Candles – cluster small groups of pillar candles of varying heights and thicknesses around the edges of your patio area or decking to create a warming, magical glow. For safety we’d always recommend using flameless candles for this.
        • Ribbon – fed up of looking at your unused outdoor furniture during the winter months? Then why not make it a feature instead? Purchase some extra wide ribbon in festive colours – sparkly gold, red, silver etc – and wrap up your chairs, tables, benches, anything(!), with Christmas bows. Not only is this fun to do, it looks great and is sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face.
        • Unused decorations – ok so paper chains won’t survive outside, and tinsel will only be able to withstand so much of the elements, but why not make the most of a few unused baubles? Use twine or thick string to dangle decorations from fencing or the balustrades of your decking. Or better yet, is there a small bush or tree nearby where you could hang them? An easy way to use up old dusty decorations and create a fun, interesting display.
