How garden improvements (and composite decking!) could help sell your home

Outdoor space has always been an important selling point but never more so than it is now.

After 12 months of intense restrictions and battling the boredom of staring at the same four walls, we’ve all learnt the value of having a little space outside to escape to. Add to this the rise in staycations over the summer months – and the fact we’re hoping to be able allowed to welcome up to 6 people into our gardens from 29 March – and the result is that gardens have worked their way up the wish list. They now sit firmly at the top of house hunters’ criteria.

With so much swaying power when it comes to sealing the deal, if you’re looking to sell your home, you need to make sure you’re making the most of your outdoor space. The question is – how?

Well, the good news is, making your outdoor space more inviting doesn’t have to be a big task, cost the earth or take forever (phew!). There are plenty of things you can easily do to help highlight your garden’s potential when you’re trying to sell your home. Making it a selling – rather than a sticking – point.

        4 easy outdoor improvements

        • Tidy up

Ok, so this one is pretty obvious but it’s also one of the most important. Not only does a tidy garden help to showcase your home in its best light, it also creates the right impression.

If your outdoor areas are neglected and overgrown, or if there is debris left lying around, it may raise doubts about the upkeep of the rest of the property. You need to remember that outside space contributes to the all-important first impression of your home and will be helping people to form opinions before they’ve even stepped over the threshold.

Thankfully smartening things up is easy. Simple tasks such as pulling up weeds, taking a trip to the tip with any rubbish and making sure the grass is freshly cut, all help.

        • Fix and paint fence panels

As part of your tidy up, it’s also a good idea to check over any gates or fencing. Are they damaged? Would they benefit from a fresh coat of paint? Look about objectively to see what might benefit from a quick touch up – don’t forget sheds and window frames too!

        • Building a decking area

Not only will a decking area help to encourage the sale of your home – it will add value too!

Decking is a huge pull and will really help you to attract sales. If you already have a wooden decking area, check that it is in a good state of repair. If it’s not – or you don’t have one – then consider composite decking.

Composite decking boards is the modern alternative to wood. It has the added bonus of being slip resistant and low maintenance – meaning it will appeal to anyone and everyone who is looking for a home with a designated outdoor area to sit and relax in, that is usable all year round.

What’s even better is that composite decking doesn’t have to be fitted by a professional. Lightweight, it is super easy to work with, simply follow an installation guide and you can build a deck fit for a king! We offer a rage of Colours from black decking boards to the natural brown decking colour.

        • Build a bin store

Whilst bins are an accepted part of a home, from choice no one wants to sit staring at them. Which is why building a space to hide them is definitely a job well worth doing.

You could use wood panels, composite decking boards or even create a store using garden trellis and grow flowers (just remember that it will take some time to see the fruits of your labour with this last option). Whichever alternative you go for, a discreet but easily accessed bin store is sure to be a hit with potential buyers.
